I get asked quite often why I like to cook. The first reason I give is normally because I like to eat. I am Thai and food is a big factor in our culture. We greet each other with hello followed by 'have you eaten? When guests turn up at your house it's safe to assume that they will expect to be fed.

The second reason is that as I grew up in the Northeastern part of Thailand, the poorest region, food was always hard to come by. We weren't hungry as there was always rice, but it was difficult finding something to go with rice. Now I do have ingredients to go with rice, I want to cook!

Steak Pizza and Chips.

Steak Pizza and Chips.

Serves 2.

As I have said before, it's half term and freeeeezing cold outside. We are stuck at home so we have plenty of time on our hands. I am going through my photo album and coming across many forgotten photos, hence the endless food posts. Thank you for putting up with it.
My father in law and daughter love steaks so I try to add something slightly different to the old, trusted recipe to keep things interesting. This pizza is a twist on steak with mushroom sauce.

        For the pizza.
In a frying pan, fry
-1 clove of garlic, with
-2 sliced shallots,
Cook, stirring until the vegetables have softened, add
-100g mushrooms, sliced,
-1tbsp chopped parsley,
-paprika,
-salt/pepper,
-a splash of red wine.
Leave to simmer for a few minutes or until the wine has reduced, then add
-80g grated cheese.
Leave to cook until the cheese has melted and turned golden brown.

Cook 450g sirloin steaks, seasoned with salt and pepper, to your liking.
Cut the pizza in half
Place the pizza on top of each steak.
Serve with chips and salad.
